Kara: I can't help it, my body is exterminating my unborn children at the moment, so I'm going to be a little loopy.
It's an agelong battle I'm afraid. You see it with Architecture vs. Engineering and new ideas... In all honestly engineers and artists seem totally separated in the academic world but in the world of ideology, discovery, and analyzing, they headbutt, clash, cross paths - they seem to be best friends in the world today.
So why are we separating these inseparable comrades? Hell if I know, but it's making my choosing a college all that more difficult.
I'm sure you guys have noticed my inactivity lately, which is due to my focusing more on getting all A's and promoting good worth ethics for myself. If I want to be an engineer and get into a great school apparentally I need the grades, more drive, and some extra-curriculars on my resume. Yeah, enter the super student. Standards seem almost unrealistic, but with admissions at a record low because high school graduates going into college at a record high, (making percentages seem like it's impossible) and then the interviews or evaluative information sessions - trying to find the cream of the crop- oy...
As a result, I've been visiting with my adviser, talking about some classes over the summer, some new ones over the fall, going to college informations sessions, waiting for mail about my summer classes so I can look for a summer job, and juggling around the idea of volleyball in the fall. With my track record of injuries, volleyball seems the safest by "that person can't come over the net and tackle you" kind of safest. With this being the last semester and exams coming up, everything should slow down. Whew! Oh, and I placed 3rd in computer science (java) in our district for state and first in onsite drawing for state! Yeah! Fun schedule for meh...
So my problem now rests in the future- college. I'm learning plenty of colleges offer cross-registration, and some even encourage the liberal arts, and then I learn some don't. It's really confusing, but I wish colleges were a bit more exploratory. I've only found a couple like that right now and I have my sights set on one in particular. Some schools offer architecture, but none of the arts, some offer art and architecture, but not much of the engineering. It's one way or the other and Architecture is barely balancing itself in the middle. Now that I'm more inclined to become a mechanical engineer, I'm finding that there isn't much room for art in some colleges and so I'm forced to make decisions- which will probably end in a student-designed major. The world of college is a bit confusing, I wish there was a website or some place that explained how they worked rather than sound confusing about it.
Honestly there isn't much different between experimentalist artists of all kinds and engineers- they both question life, find new ways, uses and ideas for things, and poke, prod, and mess with as much as they can until they get whatever they're doing right. I really don't see what the big deal is sometimes. Anyways, hopefully everything will slow down this week! Seeya guys!
